HIking the Gorge of Fara San Martino

Our Father's Day gift to Chris!
We had an incredible drive through the Apennine mountains in route to the gorge.   The views of the mountains and valleys and little towns situated on the mountain tops were breathtaking.  The gorge is 14 km long but we only hiked a fraction.  It was scorching hot!  We've noticed that on Sundays all of the Fiat mini car drivers get together for a party.  In Rome, they drove down the streets honking their horns creating a parade like environment.   In Fara San Martino, apparently they drive up to the gorge where they party with music and food at the base of the gorge.  So fun.  An  incredible day!

The views!

More views!

We saw lots of cyclists along the way....yes, Chris was jealous!

Remains of an ancient monastery

Rock climbers at the gorge.

No worries, I'll catch you!

Our version of rock climbing...in an ancient cave.

Break time!

Crystal clear water from the mountains.

A drinking fountain with COLD water...much needed after our hike.
