Rome, the Eternal City, kicked our butts in a fantastic way!
Mike and Melissa joined us for this part of the trip...yippee. We tested the girls and they hung in there with only a couple of melt downs and one time out for ARose:-))). Where to start? This city oozes ancient times out of every nook and cranny. Chalked full of culture on every street corner. One minute there is a Virgin Mary vigil on a tiny ancillary street; next minute you are on the Piazza Navona staring at the Bernini fountain. We saw countless fountains and churches, the Pantheon, Colosseum and Forum, Trevi Fountain.... We ate and ate and ate! My favorite traditional Roman dishes were the Spaghetti all'Amatriciana (named after the small town of Amatrice; made with lard, bacon, onions, tomatoes, wine and pecorina cheese) and Spaghetti a Cacio e Pepe (made with only pecorina cheese and pepper). I can still smell and taste those dishes....yum!

One fun game we played was find the next drinking fountain....we'd fill up our water bottle and anxiously looked for the next. They were obsessed....it's the little things in life!
