Got the Blues

Last night was a rough night for all of us. M was running a fever, coughing, sneezing and generally uncomfortable. That means Chris and I could not get comfortable as well. Given our lack of sleep, I decided to take the day off and hang out with M. We watched movies most of the morning then took a good nap...she was even asking to taking a nap!!

Chris' brother Mike had contacted us a couple of weeks ago regarding some friends of his from Portland--Milos and Tijana-- that were visiting Chicago this weekend. So we had already made plans to meet these guys in Oak Park to do the FLW tour and have dinner. We decided to play it by ear and we are really glad we did. Milos and Tijana were somuch fun! We will definitely stay in touch. Although M was definitely not herself, she was a little trooper. Even when the waiter dumped an entire glass of ice water on her head at dinner. Thankfully we were close to home so Chris took her home to change.

This is when the Tylenol kicked in!!

Baby R Update

Baby R is now completely off the ventilator and on the lowest setting of oxygen possible. All his vital signs are perfect. He took his first bottle yesterday and his diaper has been changed so all the pipes work well. He also took his passy yesterday.

I'm an aunt.....again!

Speaking of babies, I am an aunt again! My younger brother Brian and his wife Lauren had their first baby Monday night (coincidentally, this was their one year wedding anniversary as well). It was a boy, 7lbs 14oz, 19 inches. Lauren is doing great. Baby R was having a little trouble breathing so he is currently in the NICU but doing much better every day. They expect that he will come home within the next week. As soon as I receive pics, I will post them. I can't wait to pinch those cute little chubby cheeks (haven't seen them yet but I think I can safely assume they are chubby and cute no doubt).

Friends and More

It seems like ages since I updated my blog. We had a really busy weekend and for the last few days I've been at a work conference that kept me busy. Let's just say that I am glad to be back home!! Last weekend we had our last block party of the season. And the weather could not have been more perfect. The kids played hard the entire day and they had the dirt on their little hands and feet at the end of the night to prove it. We started with coffee and donuts in the morning. Then SpongeBob joined us as the moon jump, Chris drove the kids around in a rickshaw (this was so popular that other kids on the next block who were also having a block party joined ours just to ride the rickshaw!), we had a potluck dinner and a movie outside at dusk. A great time for the kids and parents!

We were also hanging out with our dear friends Ti and Ed (and baby E) from Las Vegas. With the distance we don't get to see them very often which makes us really sad but we're told that they may be moving back to the area next year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! And, good news...Ti is 4 months pregnant!! Congratulations Ed and Ti. I can't wait to babysit :-))

Southern Belle or P. Diddy....you choose!!

Here's M sitting with her legs crossed at the dinner table. OK, perhaps not the most noteworthy thing in the world but you have to admit, it's pretty darn cute! What makes this a story is what little Miss Prim and Proper said while her legs were so eloquently crossed. We were playing the high 5 game and all of sudden she made a fist and said "Gimme some knuckles!". I'm laughing hysterically now as I write this post :-)) THAT CRACKED ME UP!!!

Kids say the darndest things.......

This weekend has been a wet, gloomy, lazy weekend so we've had lots of inside family time. I decided to treat this weekend as a crash course reminder of what it will be like in a few weeks!
Today was a hodgepodge of a day. Just like most weekend mornings I jumped out of bed running---I like to get my chores finished early so that I can enjoy the rest of the day and M doesn't let me sleep past 6:30. Well, today was no different except that I was in no hurry to finish the chores since I was going nowhere. It had been a good 20 minutes since I had heard a peep out of M...she was in the room next door. After having a brief argument with myself (I was really enjoying the quiet time), I decided I should check in on M. I walked into M's room and what did I find?!?! M lying on the floor tucked in with a blanket and pillow looking mighty comfy playing a videogame her vTec camera (BTW, the camera is super cool...check it out). GAMES...... NOOOOOO, I was trying to shelter her from video games at least until 1st grade....oh well, a little tic-tac-toe never hurt anyone! Who did I think I was kidding. I'm over it now!

After lunch, we made faces out of jello, marshmallows and spray whipped cream (again, another first for M and she loved it). I had to banish Chris to the another room. You can see why!

Later we had our good friend Jim over for dinner. Natured called and Jim answered. When he walked in the bathroom, M said with all seriousness and innocence of an incredibly sweet 3 year old, "Jim, Do you need any help?" Chris and I almost wet our pants out of laughter. Kids say the darndest things...........Remember that show with Bill Cosby? I loved it!
